Steel Forging

Steel Forging is a metal forming process working by using a series of forging equipments. Comparing with steel casting, the use of steel forging will refine grain structure, reduce the waste of raw material, avoid complex machining operations and improve the strength of products.

Steel forging is a fuzzy concept referring forging technology in steel. We can define steel forging in different forging processes: Open die steel forging and closed die steel forging. Open die steel forging means steel forging parts made by open die forging, which is more applicated in large steel parts. However, for small precision parts, closed die forging is the right option.

Types

Stainless steel forging: Compared with carbon and low alloy steels, stainless steel is a special steel due to its high alloy content. As an adherent chromium-oxide film is formed on the surface of steel, so stainless steel has good corrosion resistance. Besides, such material also has fairly high strength and good ductility. For the characteristics of corrosion resistance, stainless steel forgings are well-suited to valves, shafts, kitchen equipment, food industry, etc.

Carbon & Alloy steel forgings: Unlike stainless steel forgings, carbon & alloy steel forging components will be much cheaper. Such materials are mostly considered for application.

Applications:

Steel forging is the process that steel is applied in modern forging process. Steel is an excellent structural material with a wide range of forging applications. With excellent strength, toughness, stiffness and fatigue resistance at a reasonable cost, steel is the dominant material in most of industrial applications. Forged steel components will greatly improve the application for its high strength, especially when safty factor is considered. From our mutual production experience, industries served of steel forgings are mostly in:mining industry, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, oilfield industry, etc.
